Left Hill634 viewsScatters added to the hill on the left hand side of the layout. The colours dont match because the glue is not dried - it usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to completely dry.
This is the result of my small tutorial shots.Aug 11, 2010

How its made 4: Glue333 viewsusing a pippet, drop watered down glue (5:1 water to glue) gently and slowly at the top of the hill, slowly moving down. the glue will be drawn down into the sand and spread. You want it to look very wet with the watered down glue visible at the surface.
Sprinkle various colours of sand into rock strata.
Then sprinkle grass scatters, foliage, and or bushses if you wish. The glue on the surface will be slurped up by the extra sand and scatter. You shouldn't need to apply extra glue. Finished Pic. later.Aug 11, 2010

How its made 3: The base320 viewsWhile the glue is wet, cover it all with crushed up sandstone.
I walked around the garden picking chunks of sandstone of three different colours - each progressively more red. These were then sorted and each colour individually crushed in a bag with an hammer. If you leave some lumps it give alot more realism that pure sand.
For vertical faces, hold your hand up as close to the vertical glue faces without touching it, then pour sandstone mix down between your hand and the glue.

How its made 2: Glue338 viewsPVA/Wood Glue is then spread to cover the entire foam block. This will not only glue the sand to the foam, but will seal the foam once dry, preventing it from deforming and causing the sand to crack.
You can also add a layer of interior filler before the glue to seal the foam, in this case, wait for a week to make sure the plaster has had some time to cure before applying the glue.Aug 11, 2010
